I have made two more "Hearts Quilts" for people this winter. They are fun to make and a favourite of kids and teens! I hope to make some more this spring using bright colours again and some homespun fabrics.
This blog started out as a way to share my quilts but it is growing to include knits, recipes, ideas, who knows what else............

SHANTIKNITS
I will be adding a few "Shantiknits" items to this blog over the next few weeks.... sweaters, felted bags, hats and mittens.
This felted bag is made from Icelandic wool - very soft and fuzzy. The colours are rich and warm and the strap easily adjustable. If you are interested in purchasing this terrific bag, you can find it at www.shantiquilts.etsy.com.

Shantiquilts
Shantiquilts It has been awhile since I have added photographs of the quilts I worked on over the summer. Look forward to some wonderful pictures over the next few days!

I just finished this quilt. It is made of a little girls' receiving blankets - they were great for snuggling her into as a newborn and now they make a soft, warm quilt for her "big girl bed." The heart applique at the centre is from a favourite baby outfit her mother sent with the receiving blankets. I am sure she will be using this quilt for many, many years!
The original receiving blankets were adorable - some had lace edging and a couple had embroidery on them. The embroidery was easily incorporated into the quilt but there wasn't quite enough lace to trim the entire edge of the finished quilt. I couldn't bring myself to throw the scraps away so I did a little playing with the sewing machine and made my first crazy quilt - just the right size for a doll or teddy bear. I think I will be making many more of these in the future!
